Andy has been actively involved in commodities trading and risk management for over 30 years. He initially worked at BP, working in various supply and trading functions before leaving to join Engen Petroleum, the South African oil refiner based in London as an energy trader before moving onto UBS in a similar role.
He then joined RWE, a large European Utility company as Head of Oil, Agricultural Products, Biofuels and Gas pricing risk management, which he ran very successfully for 12 years. He then joined hedge fund Graham Capital, to set up and run their commodities trading.
In the last seven years Andy has also worked with a number of blue-chip global companies helping them to identify their price risk to commodities and to develop strategies to manage this risk including hedging and trading business set up. He is also increasingly advising on all aspects of sustainability with his clients.
Andy has been very active in developing and delivering training courses across all commodities for over 20 years working with both public training providers and specific clients. Clients include banks, commodity producers, brokers and large corporate end users. Courses range from educational courses to assessed courses to aid clients in job selection and recruitment. He has delivered courses virtually, by e-learning and in the class room. Andy has also developed a number of commodity simulations with Amplify which are used widely in his courses.
He is an experienced Expert Witness and has offered opinions in a range of cases including litigation on oil, natural gas, coal, vegetable oil and biofuels and has appeared in both court and arbitration tribunals on a number of occasions.
Andy is also developing his interest in trading psychology specifically in decision making under risk and how it applies specifically to commodity trading.
